Upper Canada Swim Club
Dear Members,
Welcome to the Upper Canada Swim club 2009-2010 competitive swim season. I hope you had a restful, safe, and fun summer.
The 2009-2010 season marks the beginning of a new stage for UCSC. The departure of a long standing quality coach is always a difficult adjustment. However it is through this type of change that new growth and energy can take root. We are still at the very early stages of this next quadrennial cycle in preparation for the London Olympics of 2012. Canadian swimming as a whole could not be in a better place. The stellar achievements put forth by our Canadian swim team in Beijing and more recently at Worlds, served notice to our nation and the world that there are storm clouds on the horizon. Their swims cannot help but motivate all athletes, coaches, and families involved in our great sport.
As we move deeper into this quadrennial it is imperative I take a moment to congratulate Dale for his great work over the past decade. I must also extend thanks to you, members, board, and coaches, for the opportunity you have given me. It is always a difficult transition moving from one head coach to another. This year our difficulties are compounded by distance. Rest assured that once we move into Brockville on August 24th your information flow will increase steadily. In the meantime I ask for your patience while the board and I deal with the most pressing issues as they arise. I will forward all of you my email and phone number the week of the 24th so that we have plenty of time to discuss and strategize issues prior to our September 14th start up.
What remains to be said is simply, get excited. We have a strong core of talent in our organization, one which I am eager to begin working with. I know what can be accomplished, even in small town settings, when the right forces are brought to bear. Aim high!
In the meantime, good luck with the start up of school, whether you’re going yourself or getting the kids off and into their new routine.
