August 11th

Hi Everyone,

I hope this email finds you well.

This update is the third of our low key summer updates.

At the time of this writting we are finally beginning our late summer slow down. Chris, Jordan and Collin have left to Sudbury to represent our club and town as members of the Eastern Ontarion Summer Games Squad. We wish them luch as they go up against some very tough competition prior to much needed down time. Good luck boys!

Robert and Joah are in their final prep for this weekends Brockville Triathlon while our Summer campers gear up for their final meet of the Summer this Saturday in Kemptville. The Prescott meet witnessed a 1st place overall for Upper Canada Swim Club with Cordell Reynolds winning the competitive high point. Well done and good luck as the final weekend of competition approaches.

As you may have noticed our last open water of the season has been reactivated. We have 12 swimmers from Ottawa Swim Club coming down for a day on the water. We encourage swimmers from all groups to try and attend if around, even if to do a low intensity short swim. Meets are import for our long term viability and it would help put our best foot forward to have more than a few Upper Canadians out to race.

Keep an eye on the club website for new information as it arrives. With the pool closed until Sept 27th for its maintenance shut down the staff will be working on alternate plans for the first two weeks of the season. The pool shut down will not affect our scheduled Sept 13th start up for the core programs, but instead put us into more of a dryland focus.  Watch for more information as it developes.

Drop in as you wish, but most importantly continue to stay active, relax, have fun, and be safe.

Take care,

Brian

July 23rd

Hi Everyone,

I hope this email finds you well.

This update is the second of our low key summer updates. Our summer cycle has been going extremely well. We continue to see many familiar faces dropping in to the pool for a swim. Evenings can range from 5 to 20 swimmers depending on who is poking their head in the door, while the AM's float around 4-8 swimmers. We are entering our final push for the Ontario games and the Brockville Triathlon as only a few short weeks remain. Amazingly, we're still witnessing a few swimmers breaking new ground. This bodes well for their final stage of prep prior to a well deserved break.

The final planning has been completed for the season ahead with regards to schedule. The Board will be sending out a mailing in the not too distant future. Keep an eye out for your package.

On another note, I will be away the Week of July 26th. If you need to reach me for anything I will be back on deck Friday night July 30th, and Saturday morning July 31st, otherwise I'll return your emails and phone calls the week of August 1st.

Swimmers interested in attending workouts while I'm away are welcome. The squad training will have the material, you're welcome to drop in. Please note that the Ont Games squad will be swimming their Tues-Thurs am workouts with NKB at the sportplex.

Lastly, as you are no doubt aware our 2nd club open water meet of the summer is fast approaching. Please be sure to forward me the distance you wish to Swim, should you be planning on attending. As mentioned before, no training required but a great addition to your summer activities as well as a way to stay in touch with your teamates.

Gold and National swimmers will be entered unless they communicate prior to the deadline as dicsussed in season. Silver and Bronze swimmers please send in a request prior to mid day Monday.

Drop in as you wish, but most importantly continue to stay active, relax, have fun, and be safe.

Take care,

Brian

June 25th

Hi Everyone,

I hope this email finds you well. This update marks the official end of our regular weekly update series. You can expect few more at irregular intervals throughout the summer keeping you abreast of the goings on within the club. At the time of this writting we are in the final stages of our long course championship prep. We have 30 Upper Canada athletes preparing for their final competitions of the season, either at the club Time Trial, Provincial Championships, or Canada Cup. Please send them your good energy as they race to put an exclamation point on this stellar 2009-2010 campaign.

For those already finished, and those about to, have a safe happy, active summer.
UCSC OPEN WATER MEETS
Please plan on attending our two open water meets this summer. No training required. Should you plan to include them as simply part of your summer activities we are happy to enter you without attending workouts. They are a great way to stay fit and connect with teammates you may not have seen for awhile. Entries will be put in only for those who request so be sure to get your emails in if you wish to race.

SUMMER TRAINING
In addition to the Summer Camp some of our top swimmers will be preparing for the Ontario Summer Games. Swimmers are welcome to drop in as they wish to maintain summer fitness or prepare for summer triathlon events. Please touch base with me to ensure the compatibility of the workout relative to pool space. We can fit you but want to make sure we get it right.
Please review the schedule section for training times.

SCHEDULE UPDATE
Please note that the individual group schedules will run until Saturday June 26th.
The Club time trial represents the end of the season for the bulk of our membership, though we hope to see many competing in our fun open water events this summer.
Swimmers in Cross Training and Silver who regularly attend Tuesday and Thursday nights please plan on switching to the Monday and Wednesday nights beginning Monday June 28th
All athletes wishing to train for a summer event may drop in as regularly as they wish

A huge thanks to the organizers of the club garage sale this past weekend. Despite mother nature working against us the sale was a huge success for the club. Special thanks to Brian Charman for securing the St. Lawrence Pools location for us.
